Big news for Ableton users, with the brand officially launching the public beta for their new Live 12.2 update, with a host of new features, navigational improvements and sonic overhauls of a number of key tools within the popular DAW. Perhaps most notable are multiple updates to the popular Auto Filter tool within Live, with a new user interface and several new filter types being added to the mix.
One that is sure to become a favourite is the ‘DJ’ filter which controls both a low-pass and a high-pass filter within a single parameter, replicating the kind of broad, rhythmic filter sweeps you’d usually associate with certain DJ mixers. On top of that there is also the new ‘Comb’ filter which is capable of some wild flanging and modulation effects, as well as a ‘Vowel’ filter for emphasizing formants and even a ‘Resampling’ filter.

In terms of workflow, perhaps one of the most exciting announcements in the new Beta is the rapidly improved ‘Bounce to new Track’ functionality-making it possible to bounce clips or time selections on any Audio/MIDI track (along with its processing) to a fresh track with only a few clicks.
There have also been several improvements to Live 12.2’s integration with Ableton’s proprietary Push controller, with a new 16 pitch layout being added to the Drum Rack and Sliced Sampler modes, allowing melodies that span multiple octaves to be triggered from simple drum and one-shot samples. Also of note for Push users is the newfound ability to bring Live’s External Audio Effect device to the Push, meaning users are able to integrate hardware processors into their Push Sets.
