The artists:

Joel Stern is an artist/musician, curator and academic. He’s made experimental music since the early 2000s as a solo artist and in countless groups including the long-running band Sky Needle. Over recent years his work has focussed on research-driven project as part of the collective Machine Listening, including multichannel sound installations, radio art, and experimental performances. In 2024 he was commissioned by MESS to make a new electronic work, and this helped him re-fall in love in analogue synthesis and improvisation. This will be Joel’s first concert using the Buchla Easel.

eves (Edwina Stevens) is a minimalist noise-drone sound-maker experimenting with sine-wave based harmonic drones and overtones — Her wandering and tangential improvisations shapeshift between layered melodic loops, recordings of Place, intense noise and feedback, and accumulating frequencies in resonance with space, circuitry and audience. Her current instruments are a 1960’s pure sine wave generator, pedal chain and eurorack modular system based on blending tones generated through the resonance of self-oscillating filters.

fffrendo aka Stevie Richards is a DIY Electronics and Woodwind player and performer currently based in Naarm / Melbourne, Australia.
Stevie has toured the World playing improvised music in Europe, UK, United States, Canada, Mexico and Japan since 2014 and is an active participant in the avant-garde / improvisation environment of Melbourne.
