Australian synth legend Dean Walliss (Synth Sound Designer, Touring Musician and Session Synthesist for The Church and Real Life) introduces us to the Korg mutli/poly, their new Virtual Analog Synthesizer. Here’s the low-down:
Developed by KORG R&D in California, the multi/poly is inspired by the legendary KORG Mono/Poly. While adopting some of the features that popularized the original Mono/Poly, the new multi/poly is a completely new synth designed to be the ultimate VA synthesizer. It features a completely new, powerful sound engine that simulates analog feel and sound to a level of detail unparalleled in digital synthesizers or virtual synths.
With a mix of East—and West-coast style oscillators, a wide selection of next-generation modelled filters, innovative functions like Layer Rotation, KAOSS Physics, Motion Sequencing 2.0, and a massive amount of modulation possibilities, multi-poly delivers the ultimate synth experience for all synth fans and musicians.
Key Features
A completely newly developed VA sound engine with uncannily accurate, warm and rich analogue sounds and the versatility only a digital synth can provide
Inspired by Korg’s classic Mono/Poly
Mix-and-match from a broad selection of modelled oscillators, modelled filters, modelled envelopes, and even six modelled portamento types covering vintage to modern)
Combine classic sounds from the various vintage eras of analog synthesis with new & unusual tones and sound-shaping possibilities. Multi/Poly is more than a clone or generic VA
Layer rotation: evolution of original Mono/Poly paraphonic mode / inspired by Oberheim Four-Voice (4 independently programmed SEMs controlled by a polyphonic keyboard controller). Cycles through four complete layers, including multiple oscillators, filters, and effects – driven by a powerful arpeggiator.
Kaoss Physics and Motion Sequencing 2.0, for dynamic, organic modulation
